Homemade Mustard (clean and easy)
.
Yep. This is just a recipe for mustard. But here’s the thing. Mustard is hella easy to make, and you can adjust flavors to your liking (for example, making it tangier, spicier, sweeter, etc) and you can avoid any fillers and preservatives from cheaper mustards)
.
RECIPE
– Blend 3/4 yellow mustard seed into a powder (you can adjust the consistency to your liking, I like mine smoother though). Note, you can also buy pre ground mustard powder if you don’t have a food processor
– In a small sauce pot, add 1.5 cups water, and the ground mustard powder
– Add to the pot: 1/2 tsp garlic powder,. 1/4 tsp paprika, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp turmeric (for color), 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/8 tsp ground white pepper
– Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, and whisk until smooth. Continue to simmer for roughly 30 minutes, or until liquid has reduced in half
– Add to the pot 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar (add 2 tbsp more if you like mustard extra tangy) and simmer for 15 more minutes
– Let cool before moving to an airtight jar, or directly to a hotdog or hamburger
